Setup

Let's talk accuracy of Kitchen Bell feature.

Two design goals were created with the intent to greatly increase your awareness of when your competition is volleying from the kitchen and minimize errant rings. The first design goal was if a foot crossed the line from edge to edge we can be confident that 95% of the time the bell will sound. The second goal: if your toe is just next to the line, 99.5% of the time we don't want to hear a sound.  The result is that if your toe is just on the line, most likely, the bell will NOT sound. Why? Systems have tolerances and we want to avoid the bell going off when it should not.

Known Issues

Two lighting conditions have caused the Kitchen Bell feature to cause false alarms on some locations on the court.

Bright clear sunny days may cast heavy shadows with crisp clean edges of the person on the south side of the court to land across the kitchen line.  This crisp heavy shadow may be interpreted as a person.

•Stadium stadium style lighting where the lights are all around the corners of the court can have some locations where a similar phenomenon happens.  However, when lights are at each end of the net, there is no issue.
